About TULMODO

TULMODO is a modern introduction to the Holy Qurbono, the Divine Liturgy of the Antiochene tradition. This liturgy was prayed in India for more than 250 years and carried from there across the world. It is explained here in plain English, with enough depth to help you understand the liturgy you already pray.

Understand the liturgy you already pray

Our tradition does not leave worship to whatever each person feels on a given Sunday. It gives us a shared shape, and that shape is the Holy Qurbono. When you understand what its prayers and actions mean, and learn to pray them with attention and faith, worship turns from something you watch into something you do.

This is the ancient rule the Church has always kept: lex orandi, lex credendi, lex vivendi. How we pray shapes what we believe, and both shape how we live.

Learning with Malphono

Malphono (ܡܠܦܢܐ, “teacher”) is an intelligent study companion. Ask it anything about the Qurbono and it teaches from the Church’s own liturgical texts and the book of rubrics. It draws on the classical commentators, among them George of the Arab Tribes, Moses Bar Kepha, John of Dara, and Dionysius Bar Salibi, and on modern scholars of the rite, especially Givergis Paniker and Baby Varghese. You can browse the same books yourself in the library.

Its limits

Malphono is a study companion, not an authority. It does not replace a priest, a spiritual father, or the living teaching of the Church. It will not decide personal moral questions, hear a confession, or offer pastoral counsel. For those, speak with your priest or catechist. A word on the name

Tulmodo (ܬܘܠܡܕܐ) is Syriac for instruction or catechesis. The hope of this project is to ignite a deeper love of the liturgy through understanding and education.
